San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trent Dilfer left Sunday's 27-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings with a concussion after taking a hard hit shortly before halftime. Third-teamer Shaun Hill took over in the second half with San Francisco trailing 27-0. Dilfer, a 14th-year pro who has been leading the 49ers' struggling offense in Alex Smith's absence, scrambled in an attempt to pick up a first down in the final minute of the first half. Backup cornerback Charles Gordon made the tackle by driving his left should |

| n of "can you top this?", Adrian Peterson wins. The ex-Oklahoma running back, who entered the fray this spring amid questions about his long-term durability, has been nothing short of remarkable over 13 weeks of rookie-year critic-answering with the Minnesota Vikings. Not only is the 6-foot-1, 217-pounder already atop the league's rushing list with 1,197 yards in just 184 carries - a remarkable 6.5-yard average - but he's also made entry No. 1 in the all-time record book after a 296-yard blitzing of the San Dieg |

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -Erasmus James' comeback from major knee surgery lasted all of three or four plays. The Minnesota Vikings defensive end was placed on injured reserve Friday and will need surgery again to repair the ACL in his left knee. James, injured early in Sunday's game against Detroit, first tore his left ACL in Week 2 last season. He missed the rest of the year and a good portion of 2007 working his way back into shape. After several setbacks, it appeared he was back on track when he recl |

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -At first glance, Minnesota Vikings defensive end Brian Robison doesn't look like a fourth-round draft pick. In the NFL, rookies selected in the middle to late rounds are usually supposed to be seen and not heard. They are supposed to sit quietly and learn from the veterans around them, with their mouths shut and their eyes open. Then there's Robison, a former Longhorn defensive end who is about as bashful as a San Antonio used car salesman, with a swagger as big as Texas. ``Whe |

| tay away from those channels because a lot of bad things are being said about me. I just try to stay away from that stuff.'' That was definitely a good idea early this season, when Jackson usually looked overwhelmed in his first full season as the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback. He missed four of the first nine games with injuries. And when he was on the field, Jackson was inaccurate and threw interceptions. He completed just 46 percent of his passes with six interceptions and one touchdown in his |

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -Minnesota Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on steroid use. Edwards has been a starter for most of the season, but was replaced by Erasmus James for last Sunday's game against Detroit. Coach Brad Childress said that decision had nothing to do with Edwards' violation, which the coach learned of on Wednesday morning. Childress said he was disappointed in Edwards and could not comment further because of the confidentiality |
