MIAMI (AP) -The Miami Dolphins hired Mike Maser as offensive line coach Friday, the first assistant hired by new coach Tony Sparano. Maser was out of football in 2007 but has 34 years of coaching experience, including 12 as an offensive line coach in the NFL. He worked for the Carolina Panthers in 2003-06, and with Sparano when they were assistants in Jacksonville in 2002. Sparano was hired Wednesday to replace Cam Cameron, who went 1-15 in his first season as an NFL head coach.Copyright © 2005 Th |

Retaining Garrett is a big move for the Cowboys, who saw offensive line coach Tony Sparano leave to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. "I would be disingenuous to say that I don't want to be a head coach in the National Football League," Garrett remarked. "It's natural for anybody coaching to want to progress and have more responsibility. But having said that, this is a great situ |

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -Now that the Miami Dolphins have a coach, they can start looking for some players. Miami needs an upgrade at almost every position, which is now Tony Sparano's problem. On Wednesday, the former Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach became the Dolphins' fifth coach since 2004. On a team that went 1-15 in 2007, few roster spots are secure. Sparano didn't mention a single player by name during a 25-minute introductory news conference. ``For me the score is 0-0 right now,'' he said. ``I n |

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -Discussing his new job as Miami Dolphins coach, Tony Sparano sounded like Tony Soprano. ``I'm just happy to be part of the family,'' Sparano said. The family includes his mentor, Bill Parcells, and general manager Jeff Ireland, who are transforming their new team into the Miami Cowboys. Sparano is the latest transplant from Dallas. He was the Cowboys' assistant head coach before accepting an offer Wednesday to rejoin Parcells and Ireland. The trio worked together in Dallas when Pa |

The 34-year coaching veteran was last seen in the NFL as offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins under then head coach Dave Wannstedt. Prior to that, Gailey was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for the 1998 and 1999 seasons, going 18-14 including an NFC East title and playoff appearance in his first campaign. Garrett was a quarterbacks coach for two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, then joined the Cowboys a year ago as offensive coordinator before the team even hired Wade Phillips as head coach. Prior to coaching, Garrett spent 12 years in the NFL as a quarterback, mostly as a backup with Dallas and the New York Giants. T |
