He was right about Rondo, who did play despite a bone bruise in his left ankle that limited to him just 17 minutes Thursday night when the Celtics rallied from a 24-point deficit. The Celtics head into Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers with a 3-1 series lead and are on the verge of winning their 17th championship, and first since 1986.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins confirmed that he would not play in Game 5 of the NBA finals on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Lakers because of a strained left shoulder.

Leon Powe took Perkins' place in the starting lineup. It was the first playoff start of Powe's career.

``I know I'm not ready to go,'' Perkins said in the visitor's locker room at Staples Center, wearing street clothes while the rest of his teammates got in uniform for the potential clincher. ``If we have a

ATHER'S DAY: Bill Walton spent part of his Father's Day on the court at Staples Center giving some last-minute advice to son Luke on playing in the NBA finals.

``I'm the proudest and luckiest dad in the world,'' the elder Walton said before Luke's Los Angeles Lakers played the Boston Celtics in Game 5. ``This is a golden moment for him. COMEBACK OR CHOKE: Comeback or choke?

Game 4 of the NBA finals featured one of the greatest rallies in NBA playoff history. So did the Boston Celtics win the game, or did the Los Angeles Lakers lose it?

``I think it was our mistake losing that Game 4,'' Lakers forward Vladimir Radmanovic said. ``They didn't do anything special in that game. They just kept defending and we couldn't find anything on offense.''

``It's the finals, man. You've got to suck it up and go all out,'' he said before practice at the Los Angeles Lakers training facility. ``I feel like I can go (Sunday night). The doctor feels the same way. There's a strong possibility I'm playing.''

In the 30 minutes of practice open for reporters to watch, Perkins kept his left arm mostly immobile. He took some

Rivers will go for it on Sunday - Father's Day.

With his team holding a commanding 3-1 lead over the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA finals following a historic comeback in Game 4 on Thursday night, Rivers, whose team won only 24 games a year ago, was asked during a news conference to reflect on his father's influence.

BOTTOMS UP: Kobe Bryant talked about taking a lot of shots, and he meant nothing about basketball.

His teammates apparently didn't listen.

Following the Los Angeles Lakers' 97-91 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA finals, Bryant said the team ``wet the bed - a nice big one, too. One of the ones you can't put a towel over.'' And he had some suggestions how to bounce back from a game in which they blew a 24

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -The Boston Celtics aren't sure if center Kendrick Perkins will be able to play in Sunday night's Game 5 of the NBA finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.
