Jags quarterback injures ankle on first play NFL Football 11/27/2005

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback Byron Leftwich broke a bone in his left ankle Sunday early in the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinals.

``He's got a crack in the ankle,'' coach Jack Del Rio said after his team's 24-17 victory. ``The best-case scenario is about a month out, depending on how quickly he heals, and it could be worse. We just won't know until we see how the injury heals.''

The injury occurred on the Jags' first offensive play. Leftwich stayed in the game for f

two years at BC. He finished fifth on its career passing list with 4,548 yards. He also earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and finance.

But Coughlin wasn't around to see any of that. He left following '93 to become head coach of the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars.

Coughlin stayed there for eight seasons. He twice led the Jaguars to the AFC championship game and made the playoffs in 1996-99 - the only team to ever make the postseason four times in the first five years of existence.

Today, Coughlin has ret

Jags Try to Stay Scorching in the Desert NFL Football 11/25/2005
(Best E Casino) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have quietly been one of the hotter teams in the NFL over the past month, and hope to sneak up on the Arizona Cardinals this week at Tempe Stadium. Jacksonville has won three straight and five of its last six games. The Jags have beaten the likes of Cincinnati and Pittsburgh over that span, and find themselves tied with both of those teams for the third-best record in the AFC. Last week, the Jaguars survived in Tennessee, pulling out a 31-28 victory at The Coliseum. The

sea of empty seats at Sun Devil Stadium on Sunday, Byron Leftwich might realize just how fortunate he is.

He could easily have been toiling with the perennially downtrodden Arizona Cardinals rather than contending for a playoff berth with the 7-3 Jacksonville Jaguars.

``I think they traded with the Saints or somebody, didn't they?'' Leftwich said, recalling draft day in 2003 when he thought Arizona might select him with the No. 6 pick overall. ``They traded with somebody while I was in New York.''

UP NEXT: AT HOME AGAINST THE JAGS The Cardinals will host a very good AFC team when the 7-3 Jacksonville Jaguars bring their three-game winning streak to the desert on Sunday. There isn't much history to consider -- the Jaguars won the only other meeting, 44-10, in Jacksonville in 2000 -- but the matchup doesn't look good for Arizona. The Jaguars have the best
Same old story: Titans can't finish NFL Football 11/23/2005
(Best E Casino) - The Tennessee Titans were close, again, but couldn't come up with a win, again, in a game that was there for the taking. The Jacksonville Jaguars pulled out a 31-28 victory at The Coliseum on Sunday, but for the better part of three quarters the Titans were just as good or better than a team vying for a playoff berth. It was Tennessee's fifth straight loss. All five games have been decided by 10 points or fewer and the Titans have been within one score in three of those games. "As positive as I

There are two ways to look at this: The positive spin is that the Bengals' three losses have come against solid playoff contenders in the Steelers, Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars. The other way to view it is that their seven wins have come against teams with a combined record of 23-45, and only one of those teams (Chicago) has a legitimate chance of sniffing the postseason. So the questions linger about just how good this te
Taylor ineffective for Jaguars NFL Football 11/21/2005
Nashville, TN (Best E Casino) - Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor was in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans despite being listed as doubtful all week with an ankle injury. Taylor didn't help much, as he was held to minus-eight yards on six carries -- all in the first half. The Jaguars struggled with the run in a 31-28 victory, managing just 49 yards on 30 attempts for a 1.6-yard average. Taylor first injured the ankle late in an October 9 game against Cincinnati and sat out the

Nashville, TN (Best E Casino) - Byron Leftwich overcame a sluggish start to throw three touchdown passes, leading the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 31-28 victory over the Tennessee Titans at The Coliseum. Leftwich, who misfired on his first seven passes, finished 22-of-38 for 258 yards. He also ran for a score as the Jaguars (7-3) won their third straight game. After going 58 consecutive games without scoring 30 points, Jacksonville has reached that mark each of the past two weeks. The Jaguars did it without much of
