Oilers hope to get on track in test versus Preds NHL Hockey 10/30/2008
(Best E Casino) - The struggling Edmonton Oilers will try to get back on the right track tonight as they begin their longest road trip of the season with a test at the Sommet Center in Nashville. Edmonton began the season with four straight victories, but have since gone 0-3-1 during a four-game losing streak. The Oilers are 2-3-0 as the visiting team this season and begins a seven-game road trip this evening. The swing will continue this weekend with dates in Carolina and Philadelphia. The first stop of the
Thomas shuts the door as Bruins blank Canucks NHL Hockey 10/29/2008
Vancouver, BC (Best E Casino) - Tim Thomas stopped all 31 shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout and the Boston Bruins downed the Vancouver Canucks, 1-0, at GM Place. Thomas, who notched the ninth shutout of his career, also blanked the Edmonton Oilers by an identical 1-0 margin on Monday. Michael Ryder scored the only goal of the game for Boston, which now has three consecutive one-goal victories and will return home for a three-game homestand that begins on Friday against the Dallas Stars. Roberto Luongo made 29 saves for the Canucks, who have lost four of their last five games. Vancouver, which has already endured a six-game road trip this season, will go back on the road to southern California for games against the Kings and Ducks on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Bruins opened a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Mark Stuart passed from the point to Marc Savard inside the left circle. Savard drifted toward the net and fired a wrist shot that hit traffic in front. Marco Sturm whacked at the loose puck and after several players on both teams tried to gain control, the disc caromed into the slot. Ryder was in the right place at the right time and he lit the lamp with a wrist shot at the 10:16 mark. "I'm getting chances all the time and it's just a matter of keep plugging and keep shooting," said Ryder. "I came into the slot and the puck just hopped to me and I shot it high." Thomas made 11 saves in the first stanza, including a nice stick save on a shot by Ryan Kesler from the high slot. The best scoring chance for the hosts in the second period was during the latter stages of the frame after Boston's Stuart was called for hooking with four minutes remaining. The Canucks passed the puck around the perimeter and set up several one-timers, but two were saved by Thomas and one -- a rocket from the point off the stick of Kevin Bieksa -- missed the left post by inches. In the final session, Thomas simply shut the door and could not be scored upon. He ended with 13 saves in that third period alone, and kept the Canucks off the scoreboard throughout despite several good chances for Vancouver. "When all is said and done, I think we played a good game, but our top offensive players have got to find a way to score goals," said Canucks coach Alain Vigneault. "The positive is that they're getting a lot of chances." Game Notes Thomas, who stopped 27 in the win against Edmonton, has also now blanked the Canucks in both of his career starts against them. He also shut out Vancouver with 39 saves in a 2-0 win on December 21, 2006. That was also the last time these two teams met...Boston improved to 4-1-2 on the road this season...This marked Boston's first win in Vancouver since October 16, 2002...Boston ended 0-for-2 on the power play and the Canucks were 0-for-3 with the extra skater.

Canucks use big third period to beat Oilers NHL Hockey 10/26/2008
Vancouver, BC (Best E Casino) - Mason Raymond and Jannik Hansen each scored twice as the Vancouver Canucks scored three unanswered goals in the third period to come away with a 6-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. Kyle Wellwood wound up with the game-winning goal and Roberto Luongo stopped 25-of-28 shots for Vancouver, which was coming off a 2-4 road trip. "As much as the power play score today, the PK (penalty kill) cleaned up too so that's kind of good," said Hansen. "And of course when you get two goals
