Hernandez, a 13-year veteran, was designated for assignment by the Twins on August 1 after going 10-8 with a 5.48 ERA in 23 starts for Minnesota this season. The Twins signed Hernandez in February, but ran out of room on their roster for him this month with Francisco Liriano recalled after dominating in the minor leagues.
