Darren McCarty starts NHL comeback with minor league appearance NHL Hockey 01/09/2008

The 35-year-old McCarty went scoreless in the game, which the Fury won 5-4 in a shootout.

The veteran forward is angling for a return to the NHL after two injury-filled seasons with the Calgary Flames.

Red Wings officials are monitoring his progress and say McCarty could earn a spot with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League if he produces with the Generals. McCarty's next game for Flint is Friday.
