Celtics C Perkins favoring shoulder in practice NBA Basketball 06/14/2008

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins said there is a ``strong possibility'' he can play in Game 5 of the NBA finals, even though he didn't practice Saturday and appeared to be heavily favoring his strained left shoulder.

``It's the finals, man. You've got to suck it up and go all out,'' he said before practice at the Los Angeles Lakers training facility. ``I feel like I can go (Sunday night). The doctor feels the same way. There's a strong possibility I'm playing.''

This thing is not over.''

It's close, though, and unless the Lakers can find a way to win three games in a row, the Celtics will again rule the NBA.

It would have been impossible to imagine them or Rivers in this position a year ago. The revered Boston Celtics were a disaster.

The league's most storied franchise had fallen on the hardest of hard times. The mystique had faded and Rivers' young team had begun to accept defeat. The 46-year-old's future seemed uncertain as well. There were questions about h

BOTTOMS UP: Kobe Bryant talked about taking a lot of shots, and he meant nothing about basketball.

His teammates apparently didn't listen.

Following the Los Angeles Lakers' 97-91 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA finals, Bryant said the team ``wet the bed - a nice big one, too. One of the ones you can't put a towel over.'' And he had some suggestions how to bounce back from a game in which they blew a 24-point lead and a chance to tie th

Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins uncertain for Game 5 NBA Basketball 06/13/2008

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -The Boston Celtics aren't sure if center Kendrick Perkins will be able to play in Sunday night's Game 5 of the NBA finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Perkins strained his left shoulder in Boston's 97-91 victory Thursday night. He is averaging 4.5 points in the series.

Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo also aggravated his sprained left ankle, and star forward Paul Pierce rolled his right ankle in Game 4, but the captain stayed in the game. Both are day to day.Copyright ©

portunity, and to express my gratitude to the fans for the unbelievable support they've shown during my time here," Woodson stated. "I've watched these players grow individually and collectively, and am excited to continue coaching them and building on the momentum from last season. The playoff experience we had was invaluable as we look to reach the next level as a team." The Hawks, as the Eastern Conference's eighth seed, surprisingly pushed the Boston Celtics to seven games in the first round of playoffs.

ear and this past season made the playoffs for the first time since 1999 with a record of 37-45. Atlanta was just 13-69 in Woodson's first season, then won 26 games and 30 before this year's playoff appearance. The Hawks, who surprisingly pushed the Boston Celtics to seven games in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, have a new general manager in Rick Sund. He replaced Billy Knight, who resigned in early May. At the time of Knight's departure, Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon stated that he didn'

. He believes there's only one reasonable way to approach such a grim situation.

``I'm not thinking about beating them three straight,'' Bryant said after the Lakers collapsed in the last 18 minutes Thursday night, resulting in a 97-91 loss to the Boston Celtics that put them on the brink of elimination from the NBA finals.

``We're thinking about beating them on Sunday,'' Bryant said. ``Then, you move on from there. Take one swing at a time to chop down a tree. We'll take care of business on Sunday.''

Incredible comeback has Celtics on brink of title NBA Basketball 06/13/2008
Los Angeles, CA (Best E Casino) - The Boston Celtics used their defense to generate one of the greatest comebacks in playoff history and now stand one win from their first championship since 1986. Paul Pierce scored 20 points as the Celtics rallied from a 24-point first-half deficit to beat the Los Angeles Lakers, 97-91, in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Boston's defense locked down on Kobe Bryant and outscored the Lakers, 57-33 in the second half. "It's just great mental toughness," Boston coach Doc Rivers said

Los Angeles, CA (Best E Casino) - Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins left Game 4 of the NBA Finals in the third quarter with a strained left shoulder. Perkins went up to try and block a driving shot in the lane by the Lakers' Lamar Odom with 9:35 left in the third, but came down holding his shoulder and immediately bent over as he headed to the bench. LOS ANGELES (AP) -Rajon Rondo came in hurt and Kendrick Perkins went out that way.

Good thing for the Boston Celtics they had reserves to fill those roles.

Posey, whose main role is defense, made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. House added 11 points.
